Valley of Fires Recreation Area—New Mexico
Sitting in the shadow of the Sacramento Mountains and overlooking the ancient Valley of Fires lava flows, this campground is in an absolutely beautiful spot.
Fort Kearney Campground—Nebraska
When I think of a recreation area, I tend to think of something far grander than Fort Kearny. The campground is on a long, narrow property bordered on all sides by corn fields.
Curt Gaudy Campground—Wyoming
The campgrounds at Curt Gaudy sprawl around the lake in a number of loops. Most sites are on or have a view of the lake.
Green Ridge Campground—Colorado
There are no hookups at this campground, but if you are prepared to camp slightly off grid, the location more than compensates any inconvenience.
Cheyenne Mountain Campground—Colorado
I can find nothing to criticize about Cheyenne Mountain State Park. It is a legit 5-star campground and I would absolutely stay here again.
Lake Alice Campground—New Mexico
This is a very small campground with a total of 16 sites. Four are tent sites and two are host sites.
Oliver Lee Campground—New Mexico
Make no mistake, Oliver Lee is in the desert, so the temperatures can be extreme. With that in mind, I can think of nothing bad to say about this campground.
Hyde Memorial Campground—New Mexico
The best thing about this campground is its location. It is about 15 minutes from Santa Fe, so restaurants, shopping and in-town cultural attractions.
Pine Campground—New Mexico
The location, although it seems somewhat remote, is positioned close enough to Durango, CO and Farmington, NM that the drive is doable. It also provides reasonable access to some of the major Park Service exhibits.
James M. Robb Campground—Colorado
There are several units or James M. Robb State Park. I stayed in the Fruita unit. It’s right on the Colorado River and the views of Colorado National Monument are worth waking up to every morning.
Buckboard Crossing Campground—Wyoming
Buckboard Crossing is located in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, but it is pretty far north of the really spectacular part.
Colter Bay Campground—Wyoming
For this review I am talking about the campground and not the RV park. Some of the loops do not allow generators, so be careful when making a reservation.
Henrys Lake Campground—Idaho
Love the location, so big points for that. On the down side, the sites are a bit pricy for a state park.
