The location was not what I expected. Buckboard Crossing is located in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, but it is pretty far north of the really spectacular part. The lake is visible from the campground, but so is a private RV campground and storage facility, that kinda look like a junk yard.
The area is really high desert comprised mostly of sage brush, which is not a complaint. It is pretty in its own way. Although managed by the Forest Service, the forest is further south.
The campground itself is pretty basic and comprised of electric and nonelectric sites. All have a covered picnic table and there are a few juniper trees scattered about providing traces of shade.
The facilities are dated, but the host manages to at least keep them clean. The dump station requires a credit card, so even campers have to pay.
So my primary complaint is about the location. The campground is not really that close to anything other than the lake. So if you are primarily interested in fishing, it is ideal. I would stay again, but only as an overnight on my way to something else.
