The best thing about this campground is its location. It is about 15 minutes from Santa Fe, so restaurants, shopping and in-town cultural attractions. In addition, it is centrally located for visiting all of the amazing sites that lie within 90 minutes of the city.
The campground itself is small and close to the road, but I did not find road noise too distracting and there is very little traffic at night. To fill water tanks, it is necessary to stop at the visitor center and use of the dump station requires finding an employee with a key. In my opinion, these are small tradeoffs for the convenient location and price of the campground.
The campsites are adequately dispersed and well maintained. The single vault toilet is also clean. Most importantly, at 8800 feet, forest surrounds the campground and it is at least five degrees cooler than the high desert at the base of the mountain.
I’m shaving off a facilities star for the dump station and water situation, but otherwise this is a solid five stars. I would not stay anywhere else when visiting the Santa Fe area.
