Sibley Lake Campground—Wyoming
I got lucky. I arrived on the 9th of June and my loop had opened only two days earlier due to late-spring snow. Due to the late opening, the water quality tests had not come back. Out of an abundance of caution, campers were asked not to drink the water. I typically carry my own drinking water, so this was not an issue for me.
There are two loops at Sibley Lake—electric and nonelectric. I was on the electric loop and all or the sites are long enough for most RVs. They are pretty level side-to-side with a slight slope for drainage, so there was no trouble leveling my trailer.
It is a fairly small campground with only 24 sites and two of those are dedicated to volunteers. There are no interior sites on the electric loop, and there is enough dispersion so you are not on top of each other. Furthermore, the campground is quite beautiful and the first thing I noticed when I got out for my truck was the fresh mountain air and the scent of pine. Sitting at 8000 feet, the air is noticeably thinner than at the base of the mountain, but I acclimated quickly.
There are only vault toilets, but they are extremely well maintained. Firewood is for sale at the host site and there appears to be an honor system for purchasing the bundles.
Don’t expect a cell signal, but heading back down the mountain toward Dayton you will find several turnouts where you can connect. Dayton is the closest town with gas or supplies. It is small, but caters to visitors to the national forest, so you will find restaurants and groceries.
I would absolutely stay here again and again. The campground is beautiful and offers access to all of the most amazing views and points of interest in the Bighorn Mountains.
