I was less than enthusiastic about my stay at this National Park Campground. I was here in the spring and my loop was damp and not well maintained. It was pretty crowded because of the annual birding festival, but everyone behaved. It was quiet. I had to look for a staff member to answer some initial questions and didn’t see anyone, volunteer or ranger, after that.
The National Park is between Gary and Michigan City, Indiana, so it is pretty built up and outside the campground there is a lot of traffic. The park is also pretty spread out, so it is necessary to drive pretty far, in traffic, to visit the dunes or visitor center. A wetland is within walking distance, but you have to cross a state highway.
I enjoyed the park, but would probably not stay in the campground again.
