In celebration of its 50th year as a National Recreation Area, the National Park Service will sponsor special events and ranger-guided programs throughout the year.

The majority of these are eastern states. This is good information to have, particularly if you are making a making a long drive.

Maryland, New Mexico and Nevada all offer camping passes to out-of-state visitors that are extremely generous.

There are currently 6 national parks that require Timed Entry Passes for day-use visitors. This is in addition to an entrance fee and should be purchased well in advance of your visit.

Starting May 1st 2024 newly developed campgrounds at Sherman Reservoir SRA and Box Butte Reservoir SRA will begin taking reservations.
