Five Fun City Art Walks

Many cities have public displays of art, but I have spent time exploring these five and I can emphatically recommend them all.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

For 21 years, the Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk has been making art available to the anyone passing through the downtown district. It is said to be the “largest annual exhibit of public sculptures in the world.”

Lexington, Kentucky

Throughout downtown Lexington, visitors will find vibrant street art nearly everywhere. The city is so proud of this artistic expression that an official Street Art Guide is available to the public. See the link below.

St. Joseph, Michigan

In nearly every part of St. Joe, one will encounter art in some form. Downtown, residential neighborhoods, multiple galleries and the Krasl Art Center are just a few of the spaces. Exploring on foot can take more than a day.

Des Moines, Iowa

Donated to the city by the Pappajohn family, the Pappajohn Art Park is a short walk from downtown. The the downtown skyline is a backdrop for this amazing collection of sculptures.

Knoxville, Tennessee

Strong Alley (aka Graffiti Alley) is home to some of the city’s finest street art, but there is more. Knoxville offers a guide to its many amazing murals, but there is more than just street art awaiting visitors. The city is rich with sculptures and art museums.
